Get the Vibes Going

The vibes fitness instructors get from the class is so important, as I had told many participants before. I had the joy to saying it again tonight – Great class, guys!!

Power to the people

Every time I before I step into class, I try to psyched myself up to generate the energy needed for the session. The power of motivating every person to push his or her limits; to lift the knee higher, stretch your arms wider, pump your fists harder, move faster to the beat!

R.O.M. (not the abbrev. you would usually associate)

By increasing range of motion, the moves look bigger on the instructor and motivates participants to keep up along during the session. Range of motion, also known as ROM, refers simply to the measurement of movement around a joint. To test if you are hitting full ROM, try to perform a simple move. Ask yourself, is that the maximum extent this move can go?

Let’s take an easy example: Bicep curls

Hold out your arms straight in front of you. Slowly pull in your hands towards you, flexing at the elbow joint. You can see the angle of the contraction at each point. Pull them in until you cannot move any further, this will be the maximum point. Likewise, extend your hands back out until you can go no further, again reaching your full ROM.

Reaching full ROM is not just for instructors! True as it is, the bigger the moves, the participants will tend to mimic the instructor. However as a tip to participants, try to make yourself achieve full ROM at every move so that you raise your metabolic rate, maximising your workout time. After all, it’s all about trying to burn those extra unwanted calories, right? Not your instructor’s!

Back to the vibes

The more energy the instructor can channel to his or her class, the better the experience your students can have. Trust me, this is really difficult coming from the instructor alone. Keep your smile up, hold the eye contact, push yourself a little harder, correct your move a bit as your instructor tells you to. These may sound trivial, but makes a big difference to us trying to ra-ra you guys to reach your full workout potential.
